Project Description:
Illustration commissioned by Kelly Hayes and Mariame Kaba in honor of the release of their book Let This Radicalize You, 2023. Cori illustrated scenes of the care and cultural creation that takes place within justice movements that Hayes & Kaba mention. With consultation & feedback from the authors, Cori illustrated people feeding each other, organizers contacting elders for one-on-one conversation, quilt artists memorializing the names of lost loved ones, and people singing their dreams together. Overall the image showcases these rituals wafting into fantastical swirls above, while the roots of the trunk simultaneously breaking thru the hard cement.
